Without a Will, State Statute will determine who receives your property, and the Court will appoint a party to carry this out.  This can present a number of problems:

First, the Statutory distribution of a property may be different than the deceased party wants.  There is also no control over specific distributions if, upon their death, one wants a particular person to have a specific item or property.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has made the following recommendations to help you avoid being targeted by these irritating robocalls.  If you pick up a robocall, hang up immediately.

Don’t pick up a call from a number you do not recognize.  Let it go to voicemail (the robocalls will not leave a voicemail).

You should provide your lawyer with any document that might be relevant to your case.  The accident or police report is a good first step.  Copies of any vehicle insurance policies or coverage, the name and phone number you may have received from the insurance company and/or claims adjuster, and any medical records or bills from the accident are also helpful.

A number of factors figure into the monetary value of a personal injury case.  The value of a case is impacted by the nature and extent of your injuries, the amount of your medical bills, lost wages, future lost earning capacity, pain, suffering, and present and future disability.  Many injured parties who are unrepresented are not aware of all of the damages they many obtain on their case.

We hear regrets from people who have hired an out-of-area attorney to represent them in an accident case.  Many of these people tell us that they have never met face-to-face with an attorney.

They say that the telephone contact person at the law firm is a non-attorney who not only is not good at promptly returning calls, but also fail to give them satisfactory answers to their questions.

If you have experienced this personally, consider dropping that law firm and hiring someone local, like us, so you have an attorney you can directly discuss things with.

’ve heard that Wisconsin is a no-fault divorce state, what does that mean?

Wisconsin does not require there to a reason for why someone wants a divorce.  Wisconsin does not require a party to allege that there has been infidelity, a wasting of assets, or some other basis for why a party wants a divorce.  The requirement for a divorce in Wisconsin is that the marriage is “irretrievably broken”.  This means that the party believes that the marriage is over and there is no prospect of reconciliation between the parties so that the marriage can continue.
